Prof. Lars Bauernschmitt, born 1963, studied Photography and Economics. From 1993 until 2008, he was managing director of the VISUM photo agency. From 2001 until 2010, he was also a member of the board of Germany’s Federal Association of Professional Image Suppliers (BVPA). Since 2008, he has been a professor of Photojournalism in Hanover; since 2011 he has been the spokesperson for the Photojournalism and Documentary Photography programme. His areas of teaching and research are visual language, storytelling and economic conditions on the publication of images. He is a consultant for photo agencies and a specialist author. His most recent publication: Handbuch des Fotojournalismus (2015, with Michael Ebert).
