Anja Schürmann is an art historian and a freelance author. Her current research interest is the photobook. She investigates the visual narration in photobooks both on the narrative-theoretical and on the aesthetic level of image evidence. Her dissertation Conceptual vision. Description as an Art Historical Medium in the 19th Century was published by De Gruyter in 2018. In 2016 she won the 1st prize of the international talent competition of C/O Berlin in the field of art criticism. Anja Schürmann has been a post-doc fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities (KWI Essen) since March 2019. Before that, she was an assistant professor at the Institute for Art History at the University of Düsseldorf.
